Thai papaya salad, also called “som tum” or “som tam” is a fun and spicy side dish. Although in Thai cuisine, papaya salad is usually made with fish sauce and shrimp, this vegetarian som tum recipe has plenty of flavor as well.
Ingredients
- Raw papaya ½ no
- Pear 1no
- Asparagus 6no
- Red radish 20 gms
- Basil 15 gms
- Roasted peanuts 20 gms
- Cherry tomatoes 5no
- Dressing 70gms – sweet chilli sauce, garlic, chilli ,tamarind, kaffir lime leaves, oyster sauce, salt
STEP 1 : PREPARE THE INGREDIENTS
Wash all the fresh produce. Peel the papaya and cut into thin strips. Cut the pear into thin strips. Roughly tear the basil. Cut the cherry tomatoes into half. Cut the asparagus (cut the head and cut the stem into 2-3 pieces). In a medium pot, boil water with a pinch of salt and cook the asparagus for 2-3 minutes. Strain and keep aside.
STEP 2 : ASSEMBLE THE SALAD
In a large bowl, add papaya, pear, asparagus, radish, cherry tomatoes, basil and mix. Pour dressing over the mixture and toss well.
STEP 3 : PLATE YOUR DISH
Transfer into two separate bowls and garnish with roasted peanuts. Devour!
