Nasi Goreng with Sambhal Sauce

This is one of the best-known Indonesian dishes and one of the easiest to make. The garnishes give contrasting flavors and textures to the dish.

INGREDIENTS

  • Garlic
  • Thai chilly
  • Coriander
  • Ginger
  • Crushed pepper
  • Paneer
  • Carrot
  • Basil
  • Chinese cabbage
  • Thai paste
  • Rice
  • Tofu
  • White pepper
  • Roasted peanut
  • Sweet soya sauce
  • Sambal sauce
  • Spring onions
  • Skewers

STEP 1 : PREPARE THE INGREDIENTS
Wash all the fresh produce. Roughly chop the garlic, thai chilly, coriander, ginger, basil and spring onions. Cut the carrot and tofu into cubes. Cut the paneer into long thick strips.  Tear the chinese cabbage into bite sized pieces. Grind the peanuts in a mixer/grinder to form a paste.

STEP 2 : PREPARE THE GRILLED PANEER
Add 2-3 tablespoons of oil in a pan. Add chopped garlic, thai chilly, coriander and ginger.  Add salt and crushed pepper to taste. Add paneer on the skewers and add it to the pan. Sauté till golden brown.

STEP 3 : BOIL THE RICE
Heat water in a pot with a pinch of salt. Add rice and cook for 10-15 minutes or till it’s cooked. Strain and keep aside.

STEP 4 : PREPARE THE NASI GORENG
Add 2-3 tablespoons of oil in a pan. Add carrots, basil, chinese cabbage, tofu and thai paste.  Sauté for 3-4 minutes. Add boiled rice. Add white pepper and salt to taste.  Add peanut paste and sweet soya sauce. Toss well. Remove from the heat. In another pan, heat the sambal sauce till hot. Season with salt if required.

STEP 5 : PLATE YOUR DISH
Transfer the rice to a plating dish.  Garnish with spring onions. Serve with sambal sauce and paneer skewers. Devour!
